Bodywork Book Recommendations

Here are many book recommendations that I have in my library.  The links for the books goes to Amazon, but you can get many of these books elseware.  Some of these books are out of print or not availble on Amazon.  I buy many of my books used if possible.  This list will be will be growing.

Netters Atlas of Human Anatomy by Frank Netter - The best book for anatomy ever

Taber's Medical Cyclopedia - My favorite medical dictionary, I even have a copy on my phone

Touch by Tiffany Field - This book how touch is important and how it has been overlooked by many medical professionals.  She talks about some science and research that she has been a part of.

Massage Therapy Research by Tiffany Field - This book looks at massage research done at the Touch Research Institute

Orthopedic Assessment in Massage Therapy by Whitney Lowe - Absolutely and amazing book for those who would like to utilize different assessments into their practice

Muscle Energy Techniques by Leon Chaitow - Great book on a great technique

Positional Release by Leon Chaitow - Great book on a great technique

Palpation and Assessment Skills by Leon Chaitow - Great book for increasing palpation skills

Modern Neuromuscular Techniques by Leon Chaitow - A blend of the American and European styles of neuromuscular techniques

Multidisciplinary Approaches to Breathing Pattern Disorders by Leon Chaitow - Breathing disorders can be a large part of many pathologies.  This book talks about

A Massage Therapist's Guide to Understanding, Locating and Treating Myofascial Trigger Points by Leon Chaitow - A very good concise book addressing trigger point pain

Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction: The Trigger Point Manual; Vol. 1 and 2 by Janet Travell and David Simons - The authoritative book on trigger point therapy.

 

Energy Based Bodywork Books

Anatomy of Spirit by Caroline Myss - Probably my favorite book on chakras.

Wheels of Life by Anodea Judith -

Hands of Light by Barbara Brennan - One of the best books describing energy based systems.  This book should be in anyone's library who uses energy work in their practice.

Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy by John Upledger - Dr. Upledger's first book.  It is a must have for those who utilize Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy II: Beyond the Dura by John Upledger - This book delves much deeper into anatomy and physiology of the body.  I loved this book.

Somoto Emotional Release by John Upledger - Dr. Upledger's thrid book about

An Introduction to Craniosacral Therapy by Don Cohen - A very good, concise introduction to Craniosacral Therapy

The Heart of Listening: A Visionary Approach to Craniosacral Work by Hugh Milne - This is either one hard volume or two soft volumes.  Hugh has a slightly different view of Craniosacral Therapy.  It is the most comprehensive approach to Cranial work.

 

Lymphatic Drainage

Silent Waves: Theory and Practice of Lymph Drainage Therapy: With Applications for Lymphedema, Chronic Pain, and Inflammation by Bruno Chikly - Dr. Chikly's book is an essential book for those who do Lymphatic Drainage.

Foundations of Manual Lymph Drainage by Michael Foldi - This book is a very good introduction to Lymph Drainage. 

Foldi's Textbook of Lymphology: For Physicians and Lymphedema Therapists by Michael Foldi - This book is the last book on steroids.  It is one of my favorite books. 

 

DVDs

 The Integral Anatomy Series Vol. 1-4 by Gil Hedley - These videos provide a different view of the body.  Dissection is done through layers from the superficial fascia to the deep layers supporting the deep viscera.

Acland's DVD Atlas of Human Anatomy Vol. 1-6 by Robert Acland - This video seres is absolutly fantastic for learning regional anatomy.
